I’ve tried to come up with a selection of flies that mimic bait in the Northeast but are also productive in other fisheries. All the patterns I tie, I fish myself in New England waters and even in warmer climates such as the Bahamas. I also rely on professional guides, shop owners, and other anglers who I associate with to “field test” my flies. I continually rate the successfulness of each pattern. If a pattern just is not performing, I drop it from the line and start the creation of a new design I feel will catch fish.
