Welcome to Mud Dog Saltwater Flies.

The selection of flies offered here has been compiled from years on the water. Although there are a lot of fly patterns here, I’ve tried to avoid becoming a fly “super store” and stay with the flies that I have experimented with and found effective. I have fished all of these flies from Maine to Florida to the Bahamas for multiple species so I know they catch fish. The guides listed on the Guides Page also use these flies and provide continuous feedback on them.

There is no “staff” here, it’s just me and my two black labs. There is no actual “shop”, just the online store. This is not a full time occupation - I have a regular job in the real world. All the flies are tied by me, nothing is outsourced. This means that sometimes there may be a delay in getting orders out but if something is needed immediately, I’ll do my best to get it to you. I am always available, either by email or telephone, to answer any questions or help in fly selection (even if it’s not a pattern that I tie) for a specific species, fishery or destination.

As I tie each fly, I think about who will be fishing it, where and for what. One of my favorite parts of this business, and what makes the sleepless nights worth it, is getting a call or email and photos from customers after a day on the water and hearing about or seeing how the flies performed.
